Why Finland Remains a Global Reference: Steady PISA Achievement

Finland has long been recognised as one of the top-performing countries in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Finnish 15-year-olds consistently achieve high results in mathematics, science, and reading, placing Finland among the best education systems globally and in Europe. These results reflect the deep professionalism of Finnish teachers and their commitment to supporting every learner.

Students in Finland also report high life satisfaction and demonstrate a growth mindset — a belief in their ability to develop skills, intelligence, and future opportunities. This strong combination of academic achievement and student wellbeing continues to make Finland a global benchmark for high-quality education.

    Erasmus+ Job Shadowing

VisitEDUfinn provides you and your team with a meaningful opportunity to explore the strengths of the Finnish education system by shadowing local teachers in their daily work. Throughout your stay, you will gain first-hand insight into school life in Finland and observe how educators implement modern, research-based teaching approaches.

Your job-shadowing experience can take place in several types of Finnish educational institutions, including early childhood settings (ages 1–5), pre-primary classes (6 years), primary schools (7–12 years), lower secondary schools (13–15 years), general upper secondary schools, and vocational colleges (16–18 years). Most placements are arranged in the Helsinki metropolitan area, though we can organise visits in other parts of Finland upon request.

    Student mobility

Our student programs offer a structured way to experience Finnish school life and gain insight into one of the world’s most respected education systems. Each visit is designed to help groups observe everyday learning, interact with Finnish students, and explore aspects of local culture that support intercultural understanding.

Student groups may take part in short visits to individual schools or follow longer mobility periods, attending lessons much like local pupils. These longer stays enable students to form connections with Finnish peers and understand the rhythms, expectations, and learning environments that shape Finnish education. The experience often strengthens group cohesion and provides shared memories that support personal and academic growth.

Learning also takes place outside the classroom. To complement school visits, itineraries may include selected cultural activities—such as guided walks in the city centre, visits to local sites including Suomenlinna, or opportunities to try Finnish traditions. Depending on the season and age group, programs may feature activities like berry picking, ice skating, or university visits for those considering further studies.

Every program is designed in cooperation with a Finnish school and adapted to the age, goals, and needs of the visiting group. We can also help establish sister school agreements with schools in our network, supporting long-term cooperation and future exchange visits. For groups travelling in summer, when Finnish schools are closed, we offer alternative learning opportunities through our summer school program.
